Remember when we were travellers...?

December 24, 2012 - Preparation is a lot of work. Who knew? Not this guy. I have just about finished reading the Lonely Planet Guide to South America. There are so many things to see and do in South America. Did you know there are pink dolphins in the Amazon? And that there are pyramids pre-dating the ones in Egypt in Peru? Or that there are marble caves in Patagonia? I didn't. Maybe you didn't either. Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of my own here in the coming months that are better than these!

Pyramids of Caral

There's all that and I didn't even mention the countless cities, towns, hamlets and villages. As well as the natural wonders of the jungle, the desert, the Andes, Patagonia, the beaches, the savannas...I'm so excited! Many thanks to Ruth from RoP who gave me loads of helpful tips and advice. The trip will be so much better because of her insights. I'm humbled.

Marble Caves in Patagonia

I bought some supplies today. Got a backpack, got a tent and sleeping bag. Got a water bag for long hikes. There's still so much more to get. So many things are needed when you're leaving for a year :)

This week will be my crash course in Rosetta Stone - Spanish edition. I hope it's easier than I think it will be in my head. I started a while ago and slowed a bit due to other things, but it's pretty important now. I'm sure it'll be fine (famous last words, haha).

I've been watching this Peru ad on repeat for the past couple of days ever since it was emailed to me. Yes...I know, I'm a big nerd. It just makes me more and more excited watching it. (And it's not just because the future will have holographic desks!) I hope it encourages some of you to do something you've never done before but have always wanted to do. You will never regret it.

One-Way Ticket

November 14, 2012 - I booked my ticket for South America today. Who buys a one-way ticket? I thought I would be more excited. It still seems like it’s not real or going to happen. I haven’t really told too many people about it yet. I’m a bit apprehensive about it. Some people may not get it, or try to talk me out of it, or just not believe it. But I think this is a good thing. I will learn a lot. I’ll experience even more. And I’ll have so much fun in the process. This is one time I’m gonna throw caution to the wind and just jump in with both feet. Where I land, only God really knows!
