Bogota - Day 1

Bogota is a city in transition and it shows. The new Transmilenio bus line is sparkling and new. It's a fast, efficient and cheap way to get across the city very quickly. The bus has its own dedicated lane and there are bike lanes in between that. They even have car-free Sundays where bikes take over the main highways. This city can teach North American cities a thing or two. However, the downtown is falling into disrepair and the buildings are showing their age. There are many teams of clean-up crews all around the core, so that helps. Police are a visible presence everywhere. I mean everywhere. You cannot walk five minutes without seeing them. It makes a tourist feel safe. I went to a mall today. I might as well have been in Yorkdale or Eaton Centre, the same high end stores, the same high prices and the same boutique shops.

Got all this lunch for $3.50

Montserrate is beautiful. It's a harrowing ride up the TeleFerico (cable car) swinging back and forth. But when you get up there, it's a sight like no other. Check the video below (to be added).

I had Almojabana con Chocolate (a corn-cheese pastry dipped in hot chocolate) and Canelazo which is a warm drink with Aguadiente (Colombian moonshine). Just the thing I needed after a long day in the hot Colombian sun. Eat your heart out frigid friends and family in Canada :P

  1. An amazing journey already, Daniel - - and you've only just begun!! Photos are great to see. Yes, I'm jealous . . . minus 19 degrees C plus wind factor here in Ontario today. We're shivering but you're obviously having fun!
