Cuenca

Cuenca is a nice old town, known for being a UNESCO world heritage site, just like Quito. I only have one more stop left in Ecuador. Galapagos will continue being a dream because it is just too expensive to do on a backpacker tour.

The architecture here is just as good, if not better, than in Quito. The balconies, the carvings in the stone, the doorways and churches, all set to an Andean background. First a few of the churches below.

The two pictures and video below are of the "new cathedral" built in the 1800s. It is huge. The pictures show a little bit of the scale with the traffic at the bottom of the picture. The second picture is the main entrance to the church. The video shows the inside of the church.

The church below is San Blas and the second picture is

The architecture of the various buildings in the old town is really nice as well. I can imagine just having my breakfast on one of those balconies like a big shot. At least for a day. It would be nice.

  1. What's up nomad! Like the pics and am incredibly jealous of where you are right now - at least we can all enjoy these places vicariously through you. Hope you and your travel companion(s) are doing well. Thanks for sharing - we love checking out what you are up to and where you are!
